Double Nickel Severe Weather Action Plan
Nebraska weather can be unpredictable.
Always have a plan in place if severe weather is possible.

Best Ways of Getting Weather Alerts
There are a number of weather apps for your smart phone that will give you weather alerts and updates. We recommend the following phone apps:
The Weather Channel, Weather Bug, MyRadar, and/or 1011Weather for our area.
Good websites are also: www.weather.com, www.weatherbug.com, weather.gov, and
1011now.com.
You can also have a portable weather radio. Our frequency is 162.475.
We make a best to effort to text you when we receive weather alerts but we always
encourage you to have your own way of getting alerts as well. We may be limited by poweroutages.
Storms often happen in the middle of the night. Have your phone near your bed and make sure the volume is up high enough to wake you.
What do the different alerts mean?

A watch means that conditions are favorable for severe weather but there is nothing severein your area yet. Be ready to take action.A warning means that there is a severe storm or tornado in your area and you need to beready and/or move to the storm shelter. Take action now!
Tornado Warning
If you are in a camper and there is a tornado warning and conditions are safe enough to leave (i.e. no severe hail or blowing debris) please make your way to either the storm shelter or the bath house. If there is a tornado and you are in a tent get out of the tent and seek shelter immediately! As long as we retain power and internet connectivity we will send a text, blare our tornado sirens, and set all of the park lights red if we receive a tornado warning. A staff member will be at the door of the storm shelter to assist you.
Our storm shelter does have steps descending underground. If you have mobility issues, severe allergies, or fear of tight spaces you may want to go to the bath house. The bath house is a cinder block building. Go into either the men’s or women's restrooms but not the laundry as it has windows. Go as far back into the bathhouse as you can, in the shower area. Pets are allowed in the storm shelter HOWEVER they must be able to deal with a large crowd of people and possibly other animals. You are responsible for how your pet behaves. If you leave your pet in your camper, have them secured in a room or a crate. Please know that
people will be prioritized over pets.
During severe weather people tend to be on edge and nervous. This is not the time to share your favorite storm stories. Share those AFTER the warning is over. If you are nervous, try to take deep calming breaths and talk to your neighbor or find a staff member.
We recommend everyone check out the storm shelter during the daytime before an emergency arises. The shelter remains unlocked at all times.
